Community Safety Advice for Residents Living in Flats
Keeping your building secure is everyone's responsibility. Simple measures can help reduce opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour while making residents feel safer in their homes.
✅ Keep communal doors secure
Always ensure communal front and rear doors close properly behind you. Never allow unknown persons to enter the building or "tailgate" behind you. Report faulty doors, locks, intercoms, or entry systems to your landlord or managing agent as soon as possible.
✅ Look after communal areas
Keep bin stores, cycle stores, sheds and other communal spaces locked where possible. These areas can attract loitering and anti-social behaviour if left unsecured.
✅ Report maintenance issues promptly
Good lighting, clear sightlines and functioning CCTV help deter crime. Please report broken lights, overgrown shrubs, damaged security features, or faulty CCTV equipment to your housing provider without delay.
✅ Use key fobs responsibly
Where key fob entry systems are installed, ensure they are not shared with unauthorised persons. If a fob is lost, report it immediately so it can be deactivated and replaced.
✅ Protect your property
Ensure flat doors and accessible windows are secured whenever you leave home. If you live on the ground floor, take extra care to lock windows and doors.
✅ Stay vigilant
If you see suspicious behaviour, unknown persons loitering in communal areas, or witness anti-social behaviour, report it to the police and your housing provider.
